We envision a safe and secure school district wherein all students, teachers, administrators, support personnel and visitors are free to concentrate in an environment with complete peace of mind for their safety. All threats to a safe environment will be responded to, and resolved by a dedicated, well trained, highly motivated and professional security staff.
Every member of the school community has the right to be educated in and to work in a safe, secure and disruption-free environment.
The Willingboro Township Public School District acknowledges that the safety of our students and staff is of prime importance and all necessary steps will be taken to protect their welfare in an emergency situation.
An emergency can be internal or external:
An internal emergency is one which originates within the confines of the school structure and may include fire, structural collapse, bomb threat, intruder, dangerous chemical spills inside the building, or any other emergency situation that may originate inside the structure and endanger the occupants.
An external emergency is one which originates outside the confines of the school structure and may include severe weather such as a tornado, dangerous chemical release outside the building, or any other emergency situation that may originate outside the structure and endanger the occupants.
In the case of internal emergencies the superintendent or his designee has the authority to make the immediate or final decision regarding evacuating the schools. When a state or local emergency has been declared the responsibility shall rest with the state or local Office of Emergency Management.
Emergency preparedness is a process that requires continual review and readjustment.
The Willingboro Township Public School District is committed to providing a safe and secure learning and working environment for all students and staff.
To fulfill that commitment to safety and security, the Office of Emergency Preparedness, Safety, Security and Student Attendance through its security staff has developed procedures to:
Maintain control of students, staff and visitors on school property and while attending district sponsored events or activities.
Protect the district’s facilities and property.
Provide knowledge and services in the areas of protection, workplace safety, environmental health, crisis management, investigations, traffic control, integrated security systems and risk management.
